History & Origin
The Corgi originated in Wales and was originally bred for herding cattle. Despite their small stature, these dogs were highly effective working dogs, using their low height to nip at the heels of livestock while avoiding kicks. Over time, the breed became known for its agility, intelligence, and strong work ethic. The Pembroke Welsh Corgi, in particular, gained worldwide popularity as a favorite of Queen Elizabeth II, further solidifying its reputation as both a capable worker and beloved companion.
Personality & Traits
Corgis are known for their outgoing, confident, and affectionate personalities. They are highly intelligent and eager to learn, making them relatively easy to train and quick to pick up new commands. These dogs are very social and tend to get along well with families, children, and other pets. Their herding instincts may show up in playful behaviors, such as gently nipping at heels or trying to “organize” people and animals. Corgis thrive in active households where they can stay mentally and physically engaged. Whether it’s playtime, walks, or learning new tricks, they enjoy being involved in daily life.
