History & Origin
The Chihuahua originated in Mexico and is believed to descend from the ancient Techichi dogs kept by the Toltec civilization. It was originally bred for companionship and held cultural significance in early Mexican societies. Over time, the breed became known for its compact size, expressive eyes, and unmistakable personality.
Named after the Mexican state of Chihuahua, where the breed was popularized, these small dogs eventually gained worldwide recognition as charming and portable companions.
