Beagle

Beagle

The Beagle hound dog was bred in 16th-century England for hunting rabbits and small game. Packs of Beagles were maintained on the estates of rich Englishmen for hunts on horseback. Beagles became more widely bred in North America in the 19th Century. Beagles are still occasionally used as gun dogs for hunting and flushing small game, but they are more commonly seen are family pets. Beagles make excellent companions and pets for kids, but they need daily exercise and proper training. They are scent hounds and will often bark when detecting an exciting scent. Beagles have short coats, and regular grooming will keep the shedding down to a minimum. Famous Beagle owners include Lyndon B. Johnson and his two beagles, Him and Her, and Bob Dylan and his beagle Peggy.
