The Pyrenean Sheepdog, also known as the Berger des Pyrénées, is a breed of dog that originates from the Pyrenees Mountains between France and Spain. This breed has been used for centuries as a herding dog, particularly for sheep, and is known for its agility, intelligence, and devotion to its owner.  The Pyrenean Sheepdog is a medium-sized dog that stands between 15 to 21 inches at the shoulder and weighs between 15 to 32 pounds. They have a long, fluffy coat that can be either smooth or rough and comes in a variety of colors, including black, gray, fawn, and brindle. The breed is known for its lively and energetic personality and loves to work, making it an excellent choice for an active owner who enjoys spending time outdoors.  Famous owners of the Pyrenean Sheepdog include the French painter Pablo Picasso, who owned a Pyrenean Sheepdog named Lump, and the French singer Edith Piaf, who owned a Pyrenean Sheepdog named César. These dogs were often featured in their owner’s artwork or photographs and helped to popularize the breed in France and beyond.  Today, the Pyrenean Sheepdog is recognized by the American Kennel Club and is a popular companion animal and working dog. They excel in obedience and agility competitions and make loyal and loving pets for those who appreciate their intelligence, agility, and devotion.
