The Samoyed is a breed of dog that originated in Siberia, Russia, where it was used for herding and hunting. The breed is known for its friendly and gentle nature, as well as its thick, fluffy white coat, which was developed to protect it from the harsh Siberian climate.  The Samoyed is a medium-sized dog that typically weighs between 35 to 65 pounds and stands between 19 to 23 inches tall at the shoulder. They have a distinctive “smile” due to the shape of their mouth, which gives them a friendly and approachable expression. The breed is known for its intelligence and love of human company, making it an excellent choice for families and individuals who want a loyal and affectionate companion.  Famous owners of Samoyeds include Queen Alexandra, who owned several Samoyeds in the early 20th century, and the explorer Roald Amundsen, who used Samoyeds on his expeditions to the North and South Poles. The breed was also used by the Russian military during World War II as sled dogs and messengers.  Today, the Samoyed remains a popular breed and is recognized by the American Kennel Club.
