American Hairless Terrier

American Hairless Terrier

The American Hairless Terrier (AHT) is a relatively new breed of dog that originated in the United States in the 1970s. The breed was created by a Louisiana couple named Edwin and Willie Scott, who noticed that one of their rat terrier’s puppies was born hairless. They saw potential in the unique trait and began breeding hairless dogs, ultimately creating the AHT breed.  The AHT is a small-to-medium-sized dog, weighing between 12 and 16 pounds. They are known for their hairlessness, with a smooth, soft, and warm-to-the-touch skin that can be various shades of pink, brown, or gray. AHTs are friendly, energetic, and intelligent dogs that make great companions and family pets. They are also agile and excel at various dog sports, including obedience and agility.  Famous owners of American Hairless Terriers include actor George Lopez, who owns a rescue AHT named Owen. Another well-known owner is musician Josh Homme, the lead singer of Queens of the Stone Age, who has an AHT named Cesar. The breed has also gained popularity among dog lovers and has been recognized by various kennel clubs, including the American Kennel Club and the United Kennel Club.
