The Bloodhound is a large hound initially used for hunting big game. Because of its highly developed ability to track human scent, it has become the go-to breed for finding missing people. They weigh 80 to 160 pounds and are 23 to 27 inches high. In medieval Scotland, Bloodhounds, known then as sleuth hounds, were said to have been used to track William Wallace. They weigh from 80 to 110 pounds and are 24 to 26 inches high. Bloodhounds are known for their patience and gentleness, making them great around kids. Bloodhounds mature slowly and can exhibit puppy-like behavior for up to two years. They should always be on a leash when outside because of their single-minded desire to follow an interesting scent. A Bloodhound named Nick Carter from Lexington, Kentucky was said to have found over 650 missing people, including finding a person who had been missing for 12 days.
